Two useful ways to split a GIF

GIF frame extractor

Turn every animation frame into a full-size PNG for inspection, editing, thumbnails, or sprite work.

Animated GIF splitter

Cut the canvas into synchronized vertical or horizontal GIF sections without dropping any part of the image.

How to split a GIF

01

Upload an animated GIF

Choose a GIF up to 20 MiB. The browser checks its dimensions and frame count locally.

02

Choose frames or slices

Extract PNG frames, or choose 2–5 animated slices and a split direction.

03

Download the results

Save one output at a time, or download all PNG frames as a ZIP with timing metadata.

What you can do with extracted frames and slices

Inspect individual frames

Find the exact frame you need without taking screenshots.

Prepare frames for editing

Open ordered PNG files in an image editor while keeping original frame delays in the manifest.

Build split-screen animations

Create synchronized strips for layouts, banners, and multi-panel displays.

Reuse a moment as an image

Download one clean PNG frame for a thumbnail, reaction, or reference.

Optimize after splitting

Reduce the file size of any animated slice before sharing.

常見問題

What is a GIF splitter?

A GIF splitter can extract animation frames as images or divide the animated canvas into smaller synchronized GIFs.

Are my GIFs uploaded?

No. Decoding, PNG export, GIF re-encoding, and ZIP creation happen locally in your browser.

Does frame extraction reduce quality?

Each decoded frame is exported as PNG. PNG does not add compression loss, although the source GIF already uses a limited color palette.

Do animated slices keep the timing?

Yes. Each slice keeps the source frame order, normalized frame delays, and loop behavior.

Are animated slices pixel-perfect copies?

The complete canvas area is preserved, but each slice is re-encoded as GIF. Color quantization can introduce small color or dithering changes.

What happens when a width cannot divide evenly?

All pixels are kept. Slice dimensions can differ by one pixel so there are no gaps or overlaps.

Can I combine the PNG frames again?

Yes. The ZIP includes ordered filenames and a timing manifest. You can add the PNGs to an animation workflow such as Images to GIF.

What are the limits?

The browser tool accepts GIFs up to 20 MiB, 300 frames, and 1920 pixels on either side, with a decoded-pixel safety budget.

Can I split into rows instead of columns?

Yes. Choose horizontal for top-to-bottom rows or vertical for left-to-right columns.

Is the tool free?

Yes. It uses no Credits, adds no watermark, and does not call an AI provider.
